Our Graphic Arts programmes are offered as a two-year programme for grades 11 and 12 and are part of the necessary preparation for many university and college fashion design & communication, interior design, graphic arts, architectural design and general arts programmes.
Our grade 11 programme is unique to the HC Academy, whereas the entire programme is taught entirely from the fashion industry perspective. Some of the unique things students will learn about are how to create and develop fashion flats and technical layouts, and how to design custom textile collections to name a few, using software (Illustrator & Photoshop). It is important to understand that all university art programmes are now multi-disciplined. If a student truly wishes to succeed in a university art enviironment, a strong prior knowledge of the graphic arts is essential before applying. At the end of this three-term programme students will have a finished portfolio with a distinctive fashion and graphic flair. Completed portfolio’s will demonstrate the students ability to create and to communicate their ideas and designs in a unique and professional manner.
In our grade 12 Graphic Arts programme, students will learn how to create visual communication using a combination of traditional and computer techniques. Development of brand image for the fashion students’ own collections using software (illustrator & Photoshop) to create designs for logos, labels, hangtags, press kits & graphics and other marketing products. Completed projects will assist in the preparation for portfolios. Learn about application on paper and its’ boundaries and technical print limitations. Learn about print by having your projects printed. At the end of this three-term programme students will have a finished portfolio with a cohesive personal branded touch. Portfolio’s will demonstrate the students ability to communicate and most importantly, to market themselves.
Our Graphic Arts programmes are open to all students age 15 and up, and are offered during the school year, from September to June, in one three-hour class per week.
Students must supply their own lap top and all art supplies.
