Because of her innovative and forward thinking ideas, in 1998 the Haute Couture School of Fashion, Arts & Design was born and it has been a success story ever since. Joanne takes pride in the fact that the school is ever changing and evolving to keep pace with the growing fashion educational needs of today’s youths, teens and adults.

In 1986, after having attained her formal design education in the Fashion Arts & Technique Design programme at the prestigious Oakville arts campus of Sheridan College, Joanne Dice secured a two year apprenticeship with a Canadian bridal designer where she learned and perfected her talents and skills in the fine art of fashion design, before opening her own bridal and evening wear design company, Jenna Couture, which she successfully ran and operated for 15 exciting and prosperous years. Her one-of-a-kind bridal and evening wear and custom made designs were extremely sought after throughout the City of Toronto and GTA and her clientele waiting list extended for 18 months at a time!

Her successful teaching career began in 1994. While still operating Jenna Couture, Joanne was offered an assistant instructor’s position with the Toronto Board of Education, teaching sewing and design to art students at the prestigious Etobicoke School of the Arts. At around the same time, she also secured another teaching position with the City of Toronto Parks and Recreation, teaching design, sewing and patternmaking programmes to teens, adults and seniors. After one teaching season, the City of Toronto was so impressed with Joanne that they asked her to custom design a new programme hoping to lure new registration into an aging community and Joanne accepted this challenge with gusto and continued teaching with the City for a few more years.

Throughout this process, however, Joanne soon came to realize that her love for teaching aspiring young minds rivaled that of her love for design itself. In addition to this, and because of her having taught in the public school system, she quickly came to realize that there were truly no credible programmes available for aspiring young talented designers where they were able to get the proper and necessary education they desperately needed for university preparation and portfolios. The public school system programmes were just simply too vague and too elementary; the teacher student ratios were just too big for individual successes; the vast majority of the teachers were simply NOT professionals in any of the design fields that they were required to teach; and the government curriculum standard was (and still is) just too low for artistic and creative students. Joanne quickly realized that artistically gifted individuals were simply not being challenged in the public school system because they easily met the government learning standards (which are set for the majority, not the gifted), so were therefore left alone to stagnate. And finally, in addition to all this, public school financial cutbacks have taken such a severe toll on our education system, with the arts and extra-curricular programmes suffering the most.

From all of this knowledge and experience came her grand realization that something bigger was needed; a school which addressed all the growing needs of today’s artistic youth; a school where ALL the teachers are experienced PROFESSIONALS in their design fields; a school where class sizes are small and learning is at an optimum level; a school where students can perfect their talents and hone their design skills to their maximum potentials.

Over the past 14 years, the growth and popularity of Joanne’s little fashion school has jumped by such great leaps and bounds, that in December 2012, Joanne decided to change its’ name to reflect this newfound success. The school is now called the Haute Couture Academy of Fashion, Fine Arts & Design and Joanne looks forward to many more successful years to come!

From fashion show gala events…to professional portfolio photo shoot events… to charity fashion shows…to the best and most experienced teachers in the industry… to one of the widest course selections offered ANYWHERE… the Haute Couture Academy of Fashion, Fine Arts & Design is the place students come to gain the best in design and fine arts education available anywhere!
