Since we first opened our doors in 1998, we have seen many new and exhilarating changes that have carried us through with pride and excitement, always looking forward to the new challenges and new adventures that the arts industries can bring to the areas of fashion and arts education. Our most recent source of pride is our brand new, newly renovated studio, located in the heart of Vaughan on Weston Road, just three lights north of Highway 7, and minutes from all the major highways.
When one thinks of design, one of the very first images to come to mind is the exciting city of New York where old meets new, old Victorian brownstones abide everywhere and skyscrapers dot the skyline. Because of this, our new location has been inspired by and modelled after all those grand New York design studios that boast their locations in elegant and timeless Victorian buildings where you will find beautifully refinished interior brickwork, intricately designed and hand crafted wrought iron, cabinetry and woodwork details. Old fire places and time-worn old wood timbers and beams tell their own stories of the past and help to inspire and connect all the beauty, creativity and wonder that past has to offer with the innovations of modern and future art and design.
As our last location was in the Donald Grant House in downtown Woodbridge, a Victorian home originally built in 1888 and now protected by the City of Vaughan, it was only fitting that we continue our tradition of timelessness and experience in teaching in a new location equally inspired by the grandness of our design history. As the Victorian era was a highlight of design innovations and creativity, it seemed quite fitting that we modelled our new studio after such design greatness. To this end, this past May (2014), we opened the doors to our brand new “New York-inspired” studio location. Our new studio space has already proven to be both an elegant and inspirational learning environment to young aspiring artists and designers alike and boasts two huge classroom spaces for art and design. In addition to this we have added several art gallery display areas, a kitchenette area for those “all-day-students”, and a dedicated serging area for our sewing students. As well, our new studio is fully equipped with lap-tops, free Wi-Fi for students, industrial and domestic sewing machines, sergers, professional judies, and all the “bells and whistles” one would expect to find in a professional fashion and arts design environment.
Many have commented on the beauty and grandeur of our new Vaughan studio and most all have suggested how this stunning environment lends itself to greater student creativity. I guess you could say that our new studio has been designed to be a one-stop-inspirational-design-learning experience.
